Connect your mailbox
Connect the mailbox you want to read and manage in Chetty. Your mail stays with your mail service; Chetty accesses it through this connection.
Before you start
- Have the mailbox address and its password ready. Gmail and some other services want an app password instead of your ordinary password; the form links to the App password guide.
- Signing in with Google or Microsoft works when your administrator has turned it on. Otherwise connect with a password.
Connect a mailbox
- Open Email in the main menu and choose Add account.
- Set Account type to Microsoft, Google or Other email.
- For Other email, fill in Email address and Password or app password.
- Give the mailbox a name in Account name, so you recognize it among several.
- Choose Access — what Chetty may do with this mailbox — and switch on New email alerts if you want to hear about new mail.
- When connecting with a password, choose Find server settings. The mail servers fill themselves in. When the form says Automatic discovery could not find server settings., switch on Manual settings and type them.
- Choose Connect account. Chetty tests the connection and the mailbox appears in the list.
With Google, choose Sign in with Google instead of the last step. With Microsoft, choose Sign in with Microsoft, pick the mailbox in Choose a signed-in mailbox and then choose Connect account.
Choose the mailbox you want to use
Connecting a mailbox and selecting it are two different steps. A connected mailbox is needed for reading, searching, summaries, replies, drafts, sorting, attachments and new-mail alerts. Signing in to Chetty alone does not connect your mail.
- Open Email.
- Above Compose, open Account, initially All accounts, and choose your mailbox.
- You can now see its own folders and labels, create folders or labels where supported, and manage them. All accounts is useful for reading several inboxes together; it does not show each mailbox's custom folders and labels.
- Before writing a new email, check From. With All accounts, the composer starts with the first connected mailbox; you can change it there. Replies and forwards use the mailbox that received the message.
The choice on the Email page does not choose a mailbox for Chetty in chat. When you have several, name the address in your request, for example: “Summarize today's unread mail from office@example.com.” You can also ask for all connected mailboxes.
Microsoft sign-in is not the whole setup
After Sign in with Microsoft, check Choose a signed-in mailbox and finish with Connect account. The Microsoft connection here covers your own mailbox in your organization's Microsoft tenant, not shared mailboxes or colleagues' mail.
Calendar, contacts, tasks, Microsoft 365 search and OneDrive use a separate Microsoft 365 connection, not the mailbox choice on this page. If those features are available to you, check Account → Linked accounts → Microsoft 365 and follow its sign-in instructions.
New mailboxes start with agent access Read only and New email alerts off. Change these deliberately if you want Chetty to draft, sort or offer to send mail, or if you want alerts.
Change or remove a mailbox
Manage accounts beside Compose lists every mailbox with its Access and alerts. Remove account in its … menu deletes only the connection; the mail on the server stays untouched. When a mailbox stops signing in, choose Reconnect and sign in again to the same mailbox.
If it does not work
- Manual settings — the mailbox cannot reach the server, or the certificate belongs to another name. The form says "Check the server name, port and network connection." Correct the name and port, and use the name the certificate is valid for.
- App password guide — the mail service refused your sign-in. Gmail and some other services accept only an app password, not your ordinary password.
- Reconnect — a mailbox that worked before now asks for a fresh sign-in. Sign in again to the same mailbox.
- Connect account — nothing happens with Google or Microsoft: that sign-in is not set up for your organization. Connect the mailbox with a password.
