Chatbot conversations and limits
This guide explains the records and operating limits for the optional Chatbot plugin. An administrator manages them; visitors do not need an Elowen account. For adding the widget to your site, see Embed a chatbot. The plugin's fuller reference is Chatbot Plugin.
When a conversation appears
- In Elowen, open Chatbots, then choose Conversations.
- Choose a chatbot in the selector. Use the visitor filter if you need to narrow the list.
- Select a conversation row to inspect its recorded exchange. A record appears only after the visitor's first message is admitted, so an empty list does not by itself mean the widget is broken.
- The record includes the visitor's last IP address, which is personal data. It is removed when the conversation is deleted by retention, an administrator's erase action, or deletion of the chatbot account.
A live visitor token can be rotated before it expires, preserving the same visitor identity. Once expired, the server rejects it and it cannot be rotated. After an explicit credential rejection, the widget may forget the token and request one for a new visitor identity; continuation of the old conversation or its history is not guaranteed.
Set retention
- In Chatbots, open the chatbot's details, go to Limits, then choose Edit limits.
- In the Limits window, set Conversation retention to the required number of days. The default is 30 days.
- Changes are saved automatically; there is no Save button. Close Limits with Done. Back in the chatbot details, wait for the autosave status to finish and check whether it reports an error. A conversation with an answer in progress is not removed by retention or bulk erase.
- To erase conversations sooner, return to Conversations and choose Delete all conversations. Review the confirmation; eligible records are permanently deleted.
Understand operating limits
Chatbots have rate limits, concurrent-turn and queue limits, page-action ceilings, and daily or monthly spending ceilings. These control how quickly visitors can send requests, how many answers can run or wait, and the account's resource use. The monthly spend ceiling is required for enabling a chatbot; daily spend ceiling is optional. Changing a ceiling does not undo spending already incurred.
Check a problem
If a conversation is missing, check whether its first message was admitted and whether the selected visitor filter hides it. If new messages are refused, ask the administrator to check the chatbot's enabled state, allowed website origin, monthly spending ceiling and account. A restart-interrupted answer is not automatically repeated.
