Project membership and environments

Project membership controls who can work in a Project. It is distinct from instance administrator status: a computer Project requires explicit membership even for administrators. Before sharing a Project, identify its kind and what members can access.

Check members

  1. Open Projects and select the relevant Project card.
  2. Open its People tab and review the member list.
  3. Check whether it is a host Project, a managed environment, or a paired computer.
  4. If the Project is absent, ask its owner to check your membership and whether the computer is connected.

A visible Project or its details do not themselves grant permission to run commands. The Project's execution policy and your account grants still apply.

Know what members share

Managed Project members share files and stored credentials in that environment. Computer Project members work on the paired computer as the operating-system user running its Elowen connection; they can access that user's files and run commands. Private conversations and memories are not shared automatically. A host Project's access follows its configured policy.

Optional plugins may add Project features, but installing or viewing a plugin does not grant membership. GitHub identity is not inherited by other members: a linked identity applies only to commands associated with its owner's mapping.

Change membership

If you have the controls, use People to manage the Project's access. Review the selection before saving: adding a person to a managed Project shares its files and stored credentials. The computer owner alone manages computer Project membership. A non-admin member of a managed Project who has project-sharing permission can invite another account by account ID, but cannot browse the instance-wide account directory unless separately authorized.

After saving, check the updated member list. Removing someone withdraws Project membership, but does not delete files from a computer or remove private conversations.

If access is missing

Ask the Project owner or the computer owner for access. Administrator status alone does not provide access to another person's computer. If a computer is offline, its commands fail rather than running on the server. Deleting a managed Project can remove its environment and data; read the confirmation carefully.
