Set account defaults and presets
Instance defaults are inherited when an account has no value; a preset supplies reusable grants and optional behavior to attached accounts. You need Elowen administrator access to manage either.
Set instance defaults
- Open Users → Default settings for users.
- Set inherited behavior for human accounts, such as models, memory, language, tool rules or YOLO.
- To clear personal overrides and apply the defaults, choose Apply to everyone and confirm.
- Set Preset for new accounts, or choose None.
Create and assign a preset
Changing a default alone preserves account choices. Chatbot accounts keep their own settings, and personal plugin credentials are not shared as defaults.
To create a preset, open Users → Account presets, choose New preset, give it a name, then configure Permissions, Behavior and Projects. Assign it during account creation or in the account's Preset control. A preset can grant models, tools, plugins, voice, Project permissions and monthly spend. Behavior inherits in this order: personal value, preset value, instance default. Edits to a preset affect attached accounts immediately. Overwrite everyone in this preset clears the selected personal field only for those accounts. A manual permission edit prompts to detach the account; its current grants and Project memberships remain, but future preset changes no longer apply. Preset Projects set minimum memberships; extra assignments remain.
Verify inheritance
Check the attached-account count and inspect a representative account. Confirm the intended preset and its grants or behavior apply. Deleting a preset asks for confirmation; attached accounts retain grants, personal settings and Projects, while unset behavior returns to instance defaults. See Add a user and grant the right access and Users & Access.
Common mistakes
Do not confuse changing a default with applying it to everyone: only the latter clears overrides after confirmation. Preset Projects do not remove extra memberships. Detach an account if future preset edits should no longer affect it.
