Elowen on Discord

This guide is for Discord users who want to talk to Elowen in a server. The Discord plugin is optional and must be installed by an administrator. It answers in server channels and threads, not direct messages or group DMs. For shared-channel concepts, see Channels.

What you need

  1. Open a server channel or thread where the Elowen bot is installed. Direct messages and group DMs are not supported.

Start a conversation

  1. Send a message. By default, the bot can respond without a mention; an administrator may change this setting.
  2. Use /new to start a fresh conversation in that channel. Each channel has its own conversation.
  3. Answer a question from Elowen using its buttons or menus. Any member admitted by the role policies can answer, advancing the shared question for everyone.

Understand shared channels

A server channel or thread is shared: members use the same conversation and channel settings. Each person's turn still uses their own linked Elowen account permissions. A role policy decides whether the bot admits a sender and whether supported room controls are allowed; it does not grant Project or tool access. The room opener's permissions do not become everyone else's.

When it does not reply

Confirm you are in a server channel or thread, not a direct message. Ask an administrator to check your role policy, linked Elowen account and the bot's message permissions. If replies require mentions, mention the bot.
