Plugin lifecycle

Use the plugin manager to install and update registry plugins on an instance. This task is for administrators with access to instance Settings; an admin article being readable does not grant that access. Optional registry plugins require a suitable installation licence and compatible core version.

Prepare the change

  1. Open Settings → Available plugins and find the plugin. Check its description, version and declared dependencies.
  2. Review requested capabilities when the install flow asks. Do not approve permissions you do not intend to grant.
  3. Check that required configuration and credentials are available. Plugin secrets are entered in Settings → Access; individual plugin settings are in its detail view.

Install a plugin

  1. Select Install on its catalog card.
  2. Review and acknowledge any requested capabilities. If you decline, the plugin is not installed.
  3. Complete required configuration in the plugin detail view.
  4. Confirm the plugin appears under Settings → Plugins. If it requires restart, wait until Elowen reports the change saved and restarting.

Installation verifies the catalog download before applying it. The catalogue is limited to plugins covered by the installation licence; a plugin requiring a newer core is refused. Plugin changes ordinarily request a daemon restart, while a small number of plugins apply settings live.

Update plugins

  1. In Settings → Plugins, open the action menu on a plugin with an available update and choose Update. For several available updates, choose Update all plugins and confirm.
  2. Review additional capability requests. Declining leaves the affected plugin version unchanged.
  3. Wait for the status to finish; Queued means accepted, not completed.
  4. Check each plugin's resulting version and status. Disabled plugins remain disabled and update when enabled.

The grouped update uses one short restart. If the update is refused, skipped or rolled back, read the displayed reason before trying again. Never treat a queued request as proof that the new version is running.

Check the result

Open the plugin detail view and check its status and Activity. If an enabled plugin is not loaded, follow Production & Updates to inspect or repair it. For the wider catalogue, configuration and account grants, see Plugins.
