Connect tools through MCP

MCP lets Elowen use tools supplied by an external server. The optional MCP plugin must be enabled; an administrator also needs to grant it to your account when it is grant-gated. Connecting a server does not grant every account access to its tools: server ownership and account tool permissions still apply.

Add a server

  1. Open the MCP page and select Add server.
  2. Enter a unique Name, choose Transport and Ownership, then provide connection details. For stdio, supply a trusted local Command, Arguments and, if needed, Environment variables. Only administrators can manage or start stdio servers. For Streamable HTTP, enter the server URL.
  3. Leave Enabled on if you want Elowen to connect and discover tools when you save; turn it off to save without connecting.
  4. Select Save. If the server requires OAuth, its setup remains saved and shows Sign-in needed. Use its explicit Sign in action, complete authorization in the browser, then return to check the status.

Verify the connection

  1. Confirm the server shows Connected and its tools are listed. An enabled server can still be disconnected or in error; fix the displayed URL, command or credentials, then select Reconnect. Disabled means it is intentionally not connected.
  2. Ask Elowen for a task that uses one of the listed tools. If the tool is unavailable, check plugin availability and grants, ownership scope, and account tool policy. Tools supplied by the server cannot be edited on this page.

Personal servers belong to the linked account that created them; only that account can manage or use them. Instance servers are shared, but only administrators can manage them. For complete ownership, OAuth and failure details, see MCP Integration; MCP Connector Plugin describes the optional plugin.
