Who can open your website
Sites access is set per published Site. You can view a Site shared with you without being allowed to change its access. To change visibility or named guests, you must own the Site or be an administrator. This management permission does not itself make a page public or grant permission to publish.
Choose Site visibility
- Open the Sites plugin and select the Site you own. Its access setting is labelled Who can open this.
- Choose the narrowest setting that fits your audience:
- Only me — the owner and administrators can open it.
- For Project members — people with access to the linked Project can also open it.
- For signed-in users — any signed-in account can open it.
- Public — anyone who knows the address can open it without signing in.
- To make a Site public, select the public option and confirm Make public in the warning dialog. A Site is never made public automatically.
- Open the address in a browser to check what a visitor can see.
The public choice is available only when public Sites are enabled for the instance. If it is unavailable, ask an administrator about the instance setting; existing public Sites also stop being publicly readable when that setting is switched off.
Share with specific accounts
Named guests can open a Site regardless of its visibility. In the Site details, use Manage guests to select accounts and save the list. The Site owner and an administrator can manage this list. Removing a guest takes effect on the next request, even if that person is still signed in.
Understand the limits
Site visibility controls access to the published page only. It does not grant access to the Project, its application source, or its files; those remain governed by Project membership and permissions. Administrators may open Sites, including private ones, but this is not a grant to publish on the instance.
Who may publish is a separate instance-wide rule. When administrators restrict publishing to administrators, that restriction does not stop other accounts from opening Sites shared with them. Ask the Site owner to change visibility or add your account as a guest if you cannot open a page.
