Plan, work, and approve the next step
Use Plan when you want Elowen to investigate and outline an approach before making changes. Plan mode is for preparation: it can use read-only tools, but it does not edit your project files. A proposed plan is not a guarantee that every action will succeed; ordinary permissions and project availability still apply when work begins.
Ask for a plan
- Open Options beside the message field.
- Under Work mode, choose Plan.
- Describe the goal and any constraints, then send your message. Elowen investigates and returns a proposed plan in the conversation.
Review the proposed plan
Read the steps and check that the intended result, scope, and important constraints are right. If something is missing, choose Keep refining or send another message describing what to change. Elowen stays in Plan mode and can update the proposal.
Choose whether to continue
When you are ready for Elowen to act, choose Implement plan on the proposed plan. This accepts the plan, switches the conversation to Build, and starts implementation. Check the new response and any tool requests as work proceeds; accepting a plan does not bypass permissions or other required confirmations.
If you are not ready, choose Keep refining. The plan remains available in the conversation, and you can continue discussing it. If a decision fails, read the error and try again; the plan card remains subject to the current conversation state.
Plan mode is a permission guardrail, not a sandbox. For details about its limits and how to guide a running turn, see Work Modes & Steering. For chat controls and conversation behavior, see Brain & Chat.
