Organize memories with categories and Project scope

A category is a folder and a boundary at once: it groups notes and sets where Chetty uses them.

What a category does

Categories keep the Memory page readable and tell the sorting where a new note belongs. They also set its reach: a category bound to a Project counts only inside that Project.

A note with no category stays stored but is never used in a conversation. If you only ever browse your notes, categories are optional; if you rely on Chetty remembering things, they are not.

Create a category

  1. Open Memory in the sidebar.
  2. Click New category.
  3. Enter a Name and a specific Description of what belongs in it.
  4. Pick a Color and an Icon, or click Suggest an icon.
  5. Leave Project scope on Global (all conversations), or choose the one Project the category belongs to.
  6. Click Create.

The description is what the sorting reads, so name the content, not the mood:

Names of offices, file numbers, and how formal our letters are. No passwords.

Bind a category to a Project

  • A global category is available in every Project and in conversations outside a Project.
  • A category bound to a Project is used only inside that Project. Outside it, only global categories count.

New notes are sorted into a category in the background with the Utility model from Settings → Models → Model roles. While no utility model is set, new notes are not sorted and stay unused until something files them.

When the sorting finds no fitting category, the note is stored but not used. Inside a Project, that Project's own category can step in when nothing else fits.

Share memory with a Project

An administrator can switch on Shared memory for a Project and choose Who shares the memory. With nobody selected, every member of the Project shares the pool.

  • Members of the Project can use the pool while they work in it, and manage the notes they can reach.
  • Only an administrator can change or delete a shared category, and its Project cannot be changed afterwards. Its description guides the sorting for the whole team.
  • Any member who can read a shared note can delete it for good, whoever wrote it.

Categories and Reorganize memories work on your own notes, never on a shared pool of a Project.

Reorganize existing memories

  1. Open Memory maintenance in the header of the Memory page.
  2. Click Reorganize memories.
  3. Choose Categorize memories without a category to fill the gaps, or Reorganize all memories to review every assignment.

Reorganize all memories asks for confirmation and runs in the background. The job checks every note before it saves, so a category you change by hand while it runs is not overwritten.

Deleting a category does not delete its notes, but they are not used again until they are categorized.
