Set limits for a chatbot

Cap what one chatbot may spend, how long it keeps conversations and how fast visitors may talk to it.

Open the limits

  1. Open Chatbots and select the chatbot.
  2. Open the Limits group and click Edit limits.
  3. Set the three main ceilings, then expand Advanced for the rest.

Every value keeps its slider and its stored unit, and changes save as you set them. Close the window with Close.

What each limit does

Limit Default What it does
Daily spend ceiling $10 USD per UTC day. Optional; with no ceiling set, the chatbot answers with no daily cap.
Monthly spend ceiling $100 USD per calendar month. Required: a chatbot without a usable value cannot be enabled.
Conversation retention 30 days Days before a conversation is deleted.
Requests from one address per minute 75 Rate bound per IP address.
Requests to this chatbot per minute 150 Rate bound across all visitors.
Requests in one conversation per minute 25 Rate bound per visitor conversation.
Turns running at once 5 Turns that may run at the same time.
Turns waiting in the queue 10 Turns that may wait for a free slot.
Wait for a free slot 150 s Seconds a turn may wait for a free slot.
Page actions per turn 20 Page actions allowed in one turn.

A newly created chatbot already has this complete profile, so missing numbers do not make it a draft.

Spend ceilings

Both ceilings are checked against Chetty's own spending records for the chatbot's account, so they cover everything that account uses.

Note: Lowering a ceiling does not undo spending that already happened, and a turn already running can take spending past the limit.

Visitor token lifetime

A visitor token is the only authority an anonymous visitor has. When it expires, the widget asks for a new one and the conversation continues in the same session; a token is never extended automatically.

Visitor token lifetime is instance-wide and appears in Shared settings, on the Chatbots page and in the plugin detail. It takes 1 to 365 days and defaults to 30.

Note: Domains, limits, appearance and form-submission permission stay per chatbot. Only the token lifetime is shared by all of them.
