Choose which WhatsApp senders the bot answers

Add WhatsApp sender policies so the bot answers the right people, joins the right groups and keeps operator controls for the right people.

How a sender policy works

  • A policy maps a phone number, a personal JID or a whole group JID to access, a role name and optional extra instructions for the room.
  • A group ID admits everyone who writes in that group.
  • The first matching policy applies, and * is always evaluated after every named policy whatever its position. Keep * last so the order is readable.
  • A sender who matches no policy is ignored, and the bot does not explain why.
  • A policy does not replace identity. The sender also needs a linked Chetty account, and that account's Project access and tool permissions apply to the turn.

Add a sender policy

  1. Open Settings → Plugins → WhatsApp and find Sender policies.
  2. Add a policy with a phone number, a personal JID or a group JID.
  3. Optionally add extra instructions for the room and turn on the administrator flag for operators.
  4. Add a * policy last if every sender should be admitted.
  5. Save. The change requests a restart, because the bot reads its access rules at start.

Allow specific groups

Allowed groups is optional. Leave it empty and the bot works in any group where an admitted sender writes. List group JIDs to restrict the bot to those groups.

Direct chats stay allowed in both cases; the allowlist covers groups only. A sender who is no longer admitted, or a group that the allowlist excludes, also loses access to a question or menu that is already open.

Operator controls

A policy with the administrator flag set marks its senders as operators. Operators get the shared /model, /reasoning and /context menus and the control commands /stop, /stats, /compact and /restart.

In that trusted conversation, the turn also gets the full Project scope and the full plugin toolset. The operator flag does not grant the instance owner's administration tools.

Model and reasoning choices are confirmed only after the settings are saved. A failed save never confirms a change.
