Customize the CLI terminal

Shape how elowen chat looks and behaves on your computer, with a live preview in the web app.

Open Account → Terminal; every change saves automatically and the panel previews it before you start a terminal.

Colors

Color theme offers two modes:

  • Auto uses the dark terminal palette.
  • Custom uses your own palette, which you can start from Load preset: Chetty Dark, Chetty Light, Solarized Dark, Dracula or Gruvbox Dark.

In Custom, each palette entry — background, text, cursor, selection and the sixteen colors — is editable. A preset only fills the fields; adjust any of them afterwards.

Font and cursor

  • Font family: System, Menlo / Consolas, IBM Plex Mono or Courier.
  • Size: 10–20 px.
  • Style: Block, Bar or Underline.
  • Blink the cursor: on or off.

The preview uses the settings as you change them, so check legibility before you commit to a palette.

CLI chat behavior

Show reasoning (Thought) rows in the CLI shows or hides the model's streamed reasoning in the transcript. It is off by default. /reasoning show toggles the same thing from inside a chat.

Double Esc window sets how quickly a second Esc must follow the first to interrupt a running turn. The range is 0.5 to 5 seconds, the default 1.8 seconds. It changes only how long the confirmation waits, not how other key presses are read.

History and scrollback

Prompt history sets how many sent prompts the CLI keeps for recall with the up arrow: 20 to 1,000, default 100. The prompts themselves are stored per project on the computer you use, while the chosen depth travels with your account.

Scrollback sets how many lines of history the terminal keeps: 500 to 50,000 lines, default 1,000. A larger buffer keeps more output on screen and uses more memory.
