Connect the Telegram bot

Create a bot with @BotFather, enter its token in Chetty and choose the chats it may answer in.

Create the bot

  1. Write to @BotFather in Telegram and create a new bot. It replies with the bot token.
  2. If the bot must receive every message in groups, open @BotFather, choose the bot and turn Group Privacy off.
  3. Add the bot to the groups where it should work, and give it the rights it needs there.

Connect it to Chetty

  1. Open Settings → Available plugins and install Telegram.
  2. Enable the plugin. Its credentials become editable once it is enabled.
  3. Enter the token in Settings → Access → Telegram.
  4. Add at least one role policy. See Choose who may use the bot.
  5. Optionally set Allowed chats and a notification chat.
  6. Save. The bot connects on the restart that saving requests, and needs no public webhook or open port because it uses long polling.

Connection settings

Setting What it does
Bot token Required secret from @BotFather.
Allowed chats Optional numeric user or group chat IDs. Empty adds no allowlist.
Notification chat ID Numeric chat ID or @channelusername for proactive messages such as scheduled results. Empty turns them off.
Role policies Maps a Telegram user ID, an @username or a whole chat ID to access and room instructions. A whole chat ID admits everyone in that chat.

The token is stored as a secret: the setting shows whether one is set, not its value.

Commands

  • /model, /reasoning, /display and /new change the chat's model, reasoning, presentation or conversation.
  • /context and /project pick one of the sender's conversations or Projects.
  • /help lists the commands available to the sender.

The bot publishes a command menu in Telegram when it connects. Operator-only commands are left out of the menu but still work when typed.

If the bot stays quiet

  • No reply in a group. Check Group Privacy in @BotFather: with it on, the bot sees only messages that mention it.
  • No reply anywhere. The token is missing or wrong, so the bot never connected. Check Settings → Access → Telegram.
  • A command is ignored. No role policy matches the sender, or their Chetty account is not linked. See Choose who may use the bot.
  • The chat is not allowed. Check Allowed chats; a non-empty list excludes every chat that is not on it.
