Spend limits and usage bars

Cap what an API-key account can spend in a month, and read how much of an account's allowance is left.

Limit spend on an API-key account

An account with no allowance of its own from the provider shows a Spend bar: what it has cost this calendar month (UTC) at list prices, against its limit, or Unlimited. This applies to an API key for OpenAI, DeepSeek or a custom address.

  1. Open Settings → <assistant name> AI and select the provider's Settings.
  2. Find the account's Spend limit slider in General.
  3. Move it to an amount in USD. Its last stop is Unlimited.

When the account reaches its limit it stops taking requests until the next month.

  • With Routing on, the provider's other accounts take over, and the provider's bar adds up the spend and limits of all its accounts.
  • With routing off, the conversation says which account stopped and when it resets.

Note: A missing model price does not block requests under a provider-account or user-account monthly spend limit. Only known costs count toward the limit; unknown costs remain unknown, not free. Once the limit is reached, requests are refused even for models without a known price. API-token unknown-cost quotas remain separate.

Read the usage bars

Accounts in Settings → <assistant name> AI → Linked accounts show allowance bars for ChatGPT/Codex, Claude, Kimi, xAI (Grok), Meta (Muse), Opencode Go, Command and MiniMax.

  • OpenRouter shows its credit balance and any key limit instead of a subscription allowance.
  • GitHub Copilot shows no usage.

Chetty reads each account on its own schedule: every minute while a conversation turn or a delegated child runs, and every five minutes otherwise. These are provider limits, so Chetty can neither change nor predict them.

When a bar disappears

A read that fails keeps the last figures for up to half an hour and then withdraws them. Bars that disappear mean the account could not be read; reconnect the account or try again later.

A subscription window that is unlimited, or that the provider reports as unavailable, does not create a cap. An account without a subscription shows no bars at all.
