Channels and chatbots

Discord tools

See what the Discord bot can do on your server, which Discord permissions it needs and how much output each tool returns.

Read-only tools

  • DiscordListChannels lists channels and threads. Start here when you need a channel ID.
  • DiscordReadChannel reads recent messages.
  • DiscordServerInfo and DiscordChannelInfo describe the server and one channel.
  • DiscordMemberInfo, DiscordSearchMembers, DiscordListMembers and DiscordListRoles read people and roles.
  • DiscordListPins lists pinned messages.

DiscordSearchMembers matches name prefixes, and DiscordListMembers needs the Server Members intent.

Management tools

  • Messages and pins: DiscordPinMessage, DiscordUnpinMessage, DiscordDeleteMessage, DiscordPurgeMessages.
  • Roles: DiscordAssignRole, DiscordRemoveRole.
  • Threads: DiscordCreateThread, DiscordArchiveThread, DiscordLockThread, DiscordAddThreadMember, DiscordRemoveThreadMember.
  • Channels: DiscordCreateChannel, DiscordCreateCategory, DiscordRenameChannel, DiscordDeleteChannel.
  • DiscordApi sends any Discord REST API v10 request available to the bot.

Channel tools can create text, voice, news, stage and forum channels, and public threads. Use DiscordApi only when no structured tool covers the task: it is powerful, and deleting messages or channels cannot be undone.

What the bot can see and change

  • The bot needs the matching Discord permission for every action. Without it, the call fails with an error text from Discord.
  • The bot's highest role must sit above a role it grants or removes.
  • Several tool descriptions mention an admin session. The plugin does not check that session; the requirement is part of how the agent is asked to use the tool.
  • Server-wide listings need the Server Members intent.
  • DiscordPurgeMessages keeps pinned messages by default and tells the agent to run a dry run first. The tool does not enforce that order, so check the target before a real run.

Limits

Tool Limit
DiscordReadChannel Up to 100 recent messages; the oldest may be dropped when the text exceeds 6,000 characters.
DiscordListMembers 50 members by default, at most 200.
DiscordListPins Message previews of 120 characters; a channel can hold at most 50 pinned messages.
DiscordPurgeMessages 100 recent messages by default, up to 5,000; messages younger than 14 days are deleted in bulk, older ones one at a time.
DiscordApi Output cut at 4,000 characters; rate-limited calls are retried up to three times.
Any reply Long replies are split into messages of up to 1,990 characters.
