Track tasks in a conversation

A conversation's task list keeps the concrete steps of that work visible, so you can see what is done and what is still open.

What the task list is

It is a checklist, not work that runs by itself. Chetty updates it as it works, and you read it.

  • It shows progress for one conversation only.
  • It is provided by the optional todo plugin, which an administrator installs from Settings → Available plugins; it is not one of the bundled plugins.
  • It is separate from scheduled jobs, which run on a timer even when no conversation is open.

Tip: Ask for a task list when a job has several steps you will want to check one by one. A single question needs no list.

Create the tasks

  1. Ask Chetty what the steps are, then ask it to add them to the task list.
  2. Give each task a short subject and a description that says what finished work looks like.
  3. Repeat for every step you want to follow.

A task can be waiting on another task. If a step cannot start before its prerequisite is complete, say so and it stays blocked until that work is done.

Mark progress

Tasks move through pending, in progress and completed. Ask Chetty to update a task when the state changes, or when a step turns out to be unnecessary.

If a task is blocked, its dependency is the thing to finish first. Removing an obsolete task keeps the list honest.
