Run the CLI from scripts

Send one request or one API call from a terminal, a cron job or a CI step, without opening the interactive chat.

Send one request

elowen run "summarize the failing tests"
elowen -p "review this diff"
elowen run --json "inspect the project"
elowen run --mode plan "propose a migration"
elowen run --goal "finish the cleanup" --max-turns 12

elowen run prints the answer and exits. elowen -p, elowen --print and elowen --prompt are the same command.

Options

Option What it does
--model <provider/model> Use this model for the run. With --provider <id> you can pass a bare model id instead.
-c, --continue Continue the active conversation. This is the default.
--resume <id> Continue one conversation by its id.
--new Start a fresh conversation.
--mode plan, --mode build, --mode workflow Switch the conversation's mode; --plan is a shorthand for plan mode.
--goal "<text>" Run an autonomous goal until it settles.
--max-turns <n> Give the goal this many turns.
--list List your conversations with id, title and model, then exit.
--json Print every event as JSON lines instead of plain text.
--verbose Print steps, tools and usage to stderr.
--timeout <seconds> Give up after this many seconds. The default is 600.

Run elowen --help for the command summary.

Questions and exit codes

A headless run cannot answer interactive questions. When a turn asks one, the run prints the question with [needs input] and exits with code 5.

Read the exit code in your script and answer the question in a later run, or in the interactive chat.

Run a slash command

A prompt that begins with / runs that command:

elowen -p "/stats"
elowen -p "/goal pause"
elowen -p "/plan propose a migration"

Call the API

elowen api GET /projects
elowen api GET /brain/status
elowen api POST /some/route '{"key":"value"}'

The command takes a method, a path and an optional JSON body, and uses the selected instance and saved credential. The API reference lists every path your account can call and the body each one takes.

Tip: This is the quickest way to check what an instance answers, because it handles the sign-in for you.
