Install the terminal app
Install the elowen command on a computer in a couple of minutes, so that Chetty can work there from the web, your phone or the terminal.
Before you start
- A signed-in account on your Chetty instance.
- A computer running Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11, macOS 11 or later (Apple Silicon or Intel), or Linux.
- A terminal on that computer: PowerShell on Windows, any terminal on macOS and Linux.
The same command also pairs the computer with your account. Connect your computer covers what that pairing gives you and how to disconnect it.
Note: The macOS arm64 and x64 builds are built on Linux but have not been tested on real Macs yet. The Windows arm64 build has not been tested on hardware either.
Install the app
- In a browser, open Account → Computers.
- Choose Copy install command. The page selects the command for the system your browser runs on; what you copied works once, within ten minutes.
- If the page cannot tell which system you use, for example on a phone, choose the Windows or the macOS and Linux installer first, then copy.
- Paste the command into PowerShell on Windows, or into a terminal on macOS and Linux, and press Enter. It asks no questions.
Inside WSL, use the macOS and Linux command, not the Windows one.
What the command does
It downloads the client for your system, checks its signature, installs it under ~/.local/share/elowen/client and pairs the computer with your account. On Windows it installs to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Elowen\client without administrator rights.
Node.js and npm are not required.
Add the command to your PATH
If the command printed an export PATH=... line, add that line to your shell profile so elowen works in new terminals.
On Windows the installer adds the client to your user Path itself, so elowen works in the same PowerShell window and in new ones.
Check that it worked
- Run
elowenin a new terminal. The chat opens with the computer's saved login. - Open Account → Computers. Your computer is listed and shows as connected.
The computer also stays connected in the background. Read Keep the terminal connected if it shows as offline.
Remove the terminal app
- In Account → Computers, remove the computer's Project, confirm the removal scope and wait for cleanup to finish.
- On that computer, run
elowen uninstall.
After confirming access has been revoked, the command stops the background connection and removes the client, its elowen command and the saved login. On Windows it also removes the startup entry and the Path entry; the client folder disappears a moment after the command finishes.
If the Project still requires removal or the instance cannot confirm revocation, uninstall stops without local cleanup. The connector, pairing and installation stay available so pending cleanup can finish. Restore connectivity, complete Project removal and retry uninstall.
If it does not work
elowenis not found in a new terminal: add theexport PATH=...line to your shell profile and open a new terminal. On Windows, open a new PowerShell window.- The install command is refused: it is valid once and for ten minutes. Copy a new one in Account → Computers.
- The page says the install command could not be created: copy it again; if it keeps failing, ask an administrator to look at the instance.
- The computer is listed but offline: the background connection is not running. Read Keep the terminal connected.
