Get started as an administrator
Chetty runs on one server that your organization provides. You install it once, connect a model, create an account for each colleague and tell them the address. Everything else — Projects, tools, channels — can follow later.
Install, licence and the setup wizard
- Install the release on the server. See Install the release and Install Chetty.
- Activate the licence with the key you received. See Licence and activation.
- Run the setup wizard and answer its questions: the first administrator account, an optional Project, the AI provider and model, and your preferences.
Note: Without a usable licence the daemon stays locked and the web app shows a licence page instead of the sign-in form. Activate and check a licence explains how to renew and re-check it.
The first administrator is created by the installer. Sign in with that account to reach Settings, where the rest of the instance is configured.
Connect an AI provider and models
- Open Settings and connect a provider: an account key, a subscription sign-in or a model gateway.
- Offer the models your colleagues may use and set the default model. See Connect a provider and offer models.
- Assign the roles — the default chat model, a vision model for images and the model that shortens a long context. See Choose models and set roles.
Without a reachable model, conversations fail with an error instead of an answer, so connect one before you invite anybody.
Create accounts and control access
- Create an account for each colleague. See Users and access overview and Manage existing accounts.
- Grant Projects, plugins and tools per account, or through a preset so several accounts share one set of rules.
- Give each person only what their work needs; a grant that is missing is visible as a missing page rather than a silent failure.
You see what an account is granted, and delegated work can never gain more than its parent account holds:
- Plan mode refuses tools that change anything until the plan is approved.
- Workflow mode coordinates several dependent sub-agents.
- Delegate hands one focused task to a sub-agent.
Read Work modes and steering, Delegate a task to a sub-agent and Sub-agents and workflows when you plan autonomous work.
Connect a computer
Chetty can also work on a Linux, macOS or Windows computer, where it reaches that machine's files and tools.
- Sign in to the web app on that computer as the account that owns it.
- Open Account → Computers.
- Choose Copy install command: the page picks the command for the system your browser runs on.
- Paste it into a terminal and run it. On Windows, use PowerShell.
Windows needs Windows 10 22H2 or Windows 11. Read Connect your computer for the checks, the membership rules and the fixes.
Connect a chat channel
Teams, WhatsApp, Telegram and Discord need a bot or a phone number from the platform, and a restart afterwards. Read Channels and the guide for your platform: Teams, WhatsApp, Telegram or Discord.
Start and update the server
On the machine that hosts Chetty, the CLI manages the services:
elowen up
elowen status
elowen restart all
elowen update
elowen down stops them. Add --force only when you must stop immediately, because it interrupts running work. Read Production and updates for restarts, updates, backups and recovery.
